Meeting the challenge of Mental Health in school: A Learning Support perspective

Meeting the challenge of Mental Health in school: A Learning Support perspective

A half‐day (morning) event led by Fil Came, Learning Works®

New dates and venues for the Spring term

  • 7th February - Holme Grange School, Wokingham

  • 8th February - Solihull School, Solihull

  • 9th March - Taunton School, Taunton

Social, emotional and mental health is a new and growing category of need for SENCos and learning support departments.

Its introduction, by the new SEND Code of Practice 0‐25, fits well with those schools who are rethinking their behaviour policies and adopting whole school approaches that promote mental health as being everyone’s responsibility.

However, this a complex development for learning support and my presentation, based on the eight principles to promote emotional health and wellbeing in schools, will address this hot topic from the perspective of the SENCo and learning support.

During the morning I will examine what is meant by mental health and how it relates to pupils with SEN; offer up‐to‐date information, practical advice and a toolkit of resources to use in school with pupils, colleagues and parents.

The toolkit includes:
